... Kevin & Robin were in town from the west coast of Florida celebrating an anniversary, typically you would imagine folks sleeping in and relaxing, not them, they wanted to go fishing so it was on the road at 5.00 am both mornings. Friday the weather was going to allow us to get into the ocean but we knew that Saturday would not. Friday we focused on running the beaches looking for opportunities. The Jacks were very finicky again today, more so than I have ever seen. We saw good numbers of big fish but they just didn't like anything we threw at them. Kevin managed only two Jacks all day, no error on the angler's part, the fish were just acting more like Permit. So if the Jacks were acting like Permit we figured we'd go look for some Permit, perhaps they were behaving like Jacks. Well we managed to find the Permit and they were all BIG BOYS. Fortunately they were behaving somewhat like the Jacks should have been. Robin did the honors and hooked 7 of these fatties. We only got one to the boat, it was 42 lbs (weighed). That explains the hookup to landing ratio. All the Permit hooked were about the same size and Permit that size are pretty much going to have their way with you. Robin did a great job trying to keep these guys out of the structure but it just wasn't our day. We had the drags hammered down and to the point that we ended up bending out a bunch of hooks in the process. One in the boat is significantly better than none. Robin definitely had the Permit vibe going on so she got the honor of being called the “Hooker” for the rest of the day (don't tell my wife I had a hooker on the boat !). Kevin horsed up a small Goliath grouper to add to the species caught for the day. Saturday started out windy then got ridiculously windy, so Snook fishing was the plan. The really big fish are not in yet in any good numbers but there are plenty of fish to keep you busy all day. Robin did however lose her status of “Hooker” on Saturday, Kevin took that over, perhaps not quite the title he was looking for. Between the two of them they caught just over 20 Snook with one measuring just over the slot. Robin did have on a freakishly large Bluefish which of course nibbled through the mono leader right next to the boat before we could get a photo. Another busy day of fishing, they probably need a few days to recover from their weekend away. Great company, good fishing, throw in a 42 lb Permit and you have a good recipe for an awesome two days had by all.
