Eric Snook Bait Eric Snook Fly

August 11 2009

...Eric from Luxembourg fished with me again today. The trip was a late afternoon/evening trip. Bonitos on fly in the late afternoon and then Snook at night in the inlet was the plan. The late afternoon Bonito bite wasn’t all it should have been. We did manage a few medium sized fish with a few really big blue runners mixed in. As the sun set we made our way back to the inlet for the Snook. It took some persuading but Eric agreed to try bait fishing. Typically live bait is going to produce bigger Snook than on fly. A few decent Snook were landed on bait. Then it was back to the fly. We found a nice concentration of decent sized dock light Snook and went to town on them. Typically a dock light will shut down after a fish or two has been caught off it and it’s time to move on, however this light just kept producing. Eric must have gotten about 15 fish off this light (all on fly). Besides the unusual willingness of the fish to continue to bite after a few of their buddies had been caught they were also eating large flies (for night time under the lights), so don’t be hesitant to try larger flies under the dock lights, the fish will tell you if they don’t like them.
