... Today was as fun day fishing with friends, which means that I actually got to fish a little. The day started with us trying to pull some Amberjacks off a wreck, we had success in hooking fish however not so much success in landing them. With our tails between our legs we left those thugs and headed closer to the beach. The Blue fish, Spanish Mackerel and Jacks were everywhere and quite cooperative. We caught them on just about everything, surface lures, jigs and flies. They really are a blast on light tackle and fly, not huge fish but a fish almost on every cast. If only every day could be like this. There are some Spinner Sharks showing up but they are not co-operating much on the fly. They'll eat bait if it's down in the water column but are just not coming to the surface as they do later in the season. So none on fly today but we still managed to catch a bunch on bait. On our way back we saw a nice happy school of Tarpon. We have been seeing these fish regularly but not having much luck with them. Today however was our lucky day, specifically my lucky day. I placed a fly in the school and it wasn't long before I was tight to a nice healthy sized Tarpon. These big fish in deeper water can turn into a real slugfest on fly, fortunately this fish cooperated nicely with a few jumps and then surrendering before my back went out. After that we headed back in with some good underwater pictures of the sharks and some really nice video of the Tarpon. I just need to figure out how to share this footage on my website, so standby and hopefully soon I'll be able to share some moving pictures.
