Andy Shark on Fly Andy and Josh with shark on fly Andy Shark on fly 2

March 30 2009

...snuck out for an afternoon session with father and son team of Andy and Josh in an attempt to put a hurting on the local Spinner Shark population by means of fly tackle. Glad to report ... mission accomplished! I'm the first to admit that plans in fishing can run 50/50, however in this case all elements cooperated nicely (somewhat of a rarity for this time of the year). With the weather and fish cooperating in fine fashion both fish and anglers got a good workout. Four sharks to the boat on fly. Three sharks hit plugs and caught some respectable size Blue Fish in the process. This was Andy's first sharks on fly and I believe an eye opener as to the speed and strength of these admirable game fish. By shark number two Andy had acquired a college education on fighting big fish on fly. Although these fish are never easy, it became easier with a little experience and good technique. Never quite having them under control is what keeps things exciting. Josh has landed a number or these behemoths and coached his dad through the fights. Then it was Josh's turn to show how it's done. He proceeded by hooking the shark in the pec fin, just to make the fight that much more difficult (show off !). None the less the shark was eased into submission the father & son team of Andy and Josh hereby officially made it onto the Spinner Sharks' watch list. Dad and son slept well that night.
